Psalm 139:14 – Wonderfully Made
No narration available
Is the human body the result of divine design or is it merely the consequence of a series of “happy accidents” in the evolutionary process? Without hesitation, the child of God affirms the former, and this is the position of scripture.
In Psalm 139, David declares that he was “fearfully and wonderfully made.” He asserts that his body was “curiously wrought” (vv. 14,15). “Curiously wrought” is elsewhere used of the beautifully embroidered work of the curtain and door of the tabernacle (Exodus 26:36). It denotes exquisite craftsmanship.
Thus in Psalms 139:15 underline “curiously wrought,” and in your margin note: See Exodus 26:36. Underline the word “embroiderer” in that passage.
Then, also beside Psalms 139:14, write: See 1 Corinthians 12:18. In this New Testament context, Paul, in stressing the unity that should characterize the spiritual body of Christ, uses the human body as an illustration.
In connection with this thought, the apostle declares: “Now hath God set the members each one of them in the body, even as it pleased him.”
The word “set” in this context suggests that God “arranged” the bodily members in a deliberate fashion (see Arndt & Gingrich, Greek Lexicon, p. 824).
W. E. Vine noted that the aorist tense form of the verbs of this passage
“marks the formation of the human body in all its parts as a creative act at a single point of time, and contradicts the evolutionary theory of a gradual development from infinitesimal microcosms” (First Corinthians, 1951, Zondervan, p. 173).
Clearly the human body is not an accident of nature. Make these notations in your Bible.
[Note: The author has written a book titled, The Human Body — Accident or Design?. It demonstrates in an irrefutable way that man’s body could never have developed by means of an evolutionary process; it was designed.]
